While the installation may never fly, Hashimoto employs traditional kite-making techniques to make his works, which are site-specific. Small kite-like elements are handmade from paper and adhered onto a bamboo frame. During the installation process, Hashimoto strings these kites together, suspending them between parallel dowels to form layers of sculptural clouds. The film below shows the work being installed:
The Other Sun by Jacob Hashimoto is on at Ronchini Gallery until August 28, although, slightly confusingly, the gallery is closed for summer from the 13th until the 27th, but presumably the show can be viewed through the window in this period.
