Olafur Eliasson's magical light show

Olafur Eliasson's beautiful installation Model for a Timeless Garden provides the highlight of the Hayward Gallery's latest blockbuster exhibition, Light Show. Here's a film of the piece to whet your appetite.

Light Show is a mixed bag of a show; by lumping together so many works and artists by medium (as its title suggests, the link between all the artworks in the show is that they feature electric lights), some of the more subtle pieces are overshadowed by those that utilise dramatic effect.

Eliasson's piece falls firmly in the latter category, but its use of strobe lighting to turn a series of fountains into jerky, flashing sculptures seemingly carved in ice is totally captivating, and worth the entry price on its own. Check out the film below for a taste of it, and then head to the Hayward to see the real thing.
